My, How Times Have Changed

It wasn't that long ago that I was able to change plans at the drop of a hat.  If my work schedule got switched around, no biggie!  The most I would have to do is go to bed a little earlier or later.  Now times have changed.  With a toddler in the picture, my days are planned out minute by minute.  The routine doesn't often get altered.  If it does, it's not by much.  So, when my boss told me I had to come into work early for a promo shoot, I started reorganizing Princess's schedule in my head.  No problem!

I'll tell her teacher that I'd bring her in a bit earlier than normal.  Since my commute would now be cut in half, the day would be smooth sailing.  You see, normally when we have big promo shoots, someone would cover my shift for the day.  But due to the holidays, finding coverage is pretty much impossible.  Needless to say, I now have to get back in time for the evening newscasts.  Did I mention that the location also changed?

Instead of a twenty minute commute, I now have to leave the state and drive in rush hour traffic!  Luckily, I work for a cool company that's willing to have a car service pick me up and take me back to the station.  I was able to sneak out of work a little early and begin prepping in advance.

Thank goodness Princess was fast asleep by the time I got home.  After getting ready for bed and chatting with hubby, I got right to it.  I got Princess's diaper bag ready with all of her essentials for the day.  I made all her meals, including dinner.

I laid out her clothes.

Now all I have to do is get some shuteye.  I'll be up at the crack of dawn to get myself ready, get Princess dressed, take her to daycare, head work for a quick sec, take the car service to the shoot, and make it back in time for the newscasts.  Oh!  I forgot to mention that I'll be heading to the company holiday party afterwards.  I'm in for a long one.  It's gonna be a crazy day, but I'm looking forward to it. It's good to change things up every now and then.  Plus, I wouldn't miss the promo shoot and holiday party for the world!

One of the best parts of being a mom is the challenge of juggling everything.  It's a work in progress,  but I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it.  How are you able to find balance?

Is it Possible to Outgrow Your Home?

When my hubby and I found out we were expecting, we began making room for our bundle of joy.  That meant turning our guest room into a baby room.  But, I didn't imagine how much space a baby would need!

We didn't have to paint, thank goodness!  I'm a pretty simple person.  I've never been into adding all the foo-foo-la nursery stuff.  It's cute and all, but not practical for us.  I'd just end up having to remodel again later on, once he/she gets older.  Oh, that's another thing!  I also new I wanted the gender to be a surprise.  We kept the walls beige and everything else the same.  I know it sounds a bit boring, but we added a textured effect which made the walls really pop.  My hubby likes flat, blah colors, and I've always been into bright shades.  So, he met me half way and settled on a rag paint technique.

It's something we did when we first moved in.  We kept the full size bed which was normally occupied by my nephew, who often stayed with us.  Everyone who came over asked about how we planned to decorate the nursery.  I used to feel bad that we really didn't do much.  I'd say, "all we added to the bedroom was this crib."

I'd get the occasional stare or some weird comment.  But now that I think about it, I'm kinda glad we didn't go all out because we barely have room to fit all her stuff now.  If I knew she'd never sleep in the crib, I would have told my mom to save her money!

It’s been over a year and I can see our home shrinking before my eyes.  The bigger Princess gets, the more room she needs.   My baby girl doesn’t even have her own closet!  I'm to blame for that, I guess.  I took over our bedroom closet, so my hubby was forced to take over hers.  Hey, I'm in the TV biz!  It requires a lot of clothes.  What can I say?

Now I'm on a mission to make more room for our baby girl without sacrificing our own needs, our wallets, and our sanity!  Here are some steps I've taken so far:

1) For starters, I donated clothes she can no longer fit.  It's freed up space in the dresser drawer that holds all her clothes.

2) She also has outfits she'll be growing into soon (and the cute ones I can't part with yet).  That's all kept in a storage bin in the closet.
3) I've contemplated donating the crib.  But, may hang onto it in case we have another baby down the road.
4) I've also returned many of the toys and baby gadgets she's never used.
5) All her books have been packed away in drawer and bookshelf.
6) And I've decided if we don't need it, we don't buy it.  Making unnecessary purchases only takes up space!

Have you dealt with this? If you have any other suggestions, hit me up!

Crazy Week So Far!

I can't say that I've been having a great week so far.  I've been having a lot of computer troubles at work, which can be very frustrating.  But my cunundrums reached a crescendo when I realized late last night that I had two exams and a quiz due in the morning.  Plan A was to finish up the quiz when I got in last night, but that didn't happen.  Princess has a tendency to wake up around 1 am and last night was no different.

My only other option was to put plan B in motion.  It meant taking Princess to daycare earlier than usual in order to complete everything before the noon deadline.  But of all mornings she didn't want to get out of bed.  Baby girl was so tired, and I felt bad having to wake her up.  It was either let her sleep some more or wake her up.  I chose the latter.  She wasn't too happy, but I had no choice.  From breakfast to washing up and getting dressed, she wasn't having it.  It's like the stars were not aligned.  By the time I got in the car I realized my gas tank was on empty.  The display read that I had 25 miles left.  With daycare just a few minutes away, I would be able to make there and back.  The best part about the day was that as soon as we got out of the car, Princess was happy as can be.

By the time I returned home it was after 10 AM.  I had less than two hours to make deadline.  I hurried through the quiz and the first exam.  But when I got to the last test, I was at a loss for words.  Nothing made sense.  The questions looked extremely foreign.  I didn't recognize anything from the assignments or previous quizes we had.  I fired off an emergency email to the professor hoping he could help.  But he basically said that other students had the same concerns and I should make sure to keep up with the emails in the future.  "Huh?" I asked myself.  I don't need a scolding, "just tell be where these questions are coming from."  I called a classmate in a panic and she was so sweet to direct me to the right location.  I breathed a sigh of relieve, but I quickly went back into panic mode once I realized that I only had thirteen minutes left to finished the twenty question exam.  Ahhhh!!!!

On top of all that, I had only one hour to get dressed, buy gas, and make it in to work.  I barely made it there on time.  Overall the day was a total disaster!  I did great on the quiz, but bombed the two exams.  I'm too embarassed to reveal my grade, so please don't ask.

Gosh, life has become a juggling act, and this day proved just that.  I have to get my act together and pass these classes.  Thanks for reading.
